When God sees that the world is wicked, He sends a flood to wipe away every living creature from earth. After this, God makes an everlasting promise, a covenant, with Noah and his family. God promises that He will never send a flood to destroy the earth again. He will restore the world and work out His will with the people of earth.
"I establish my covenant with you: never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth". Genesis 9:11
Creation and Noah's flood can easily be compared to each other. The flood is Gods way of undoing creation and restoring it again. The table below compares Gods instructions for creation in Genesis 1, with Gods covenant with Noah after the flood in Genesis 9. Both events start with the earth in chaos with water everywhere, dry ground appears, then animals emerged through creation and the ark, people were created and left the ark and were instructed to multiply and were given specific commands. Man is again given the earth and the animals. Both of these stories end in man being naked and ashamed. Even though the end result is shame, there is still hope. Never again will God destroy the earth through flood. God establishes His everlasting covenant with Noah and sets a rainbow in the sky as a reminder. There is hope that one day Gods creation will be restored to the promised Kingdom.
